And Tegic T9 predictive text input for speedy typing. There’s even handsfree built in, so that you can make calls without lifting your phone or headset.
SONY CMD-Z5
This is probably the coolest looking WAP enabled device available. But beauty is only skin deep - the tiny display and awkward navigation system let the phone down. We consider ourselves to be expert gadget users and we found it very difficult to make sense of the maze of configuration menus in the Z5. It uses the Microsoft Mobile Explorer browser that enables html and wap access in addition to standard email access. There is no doubt this device looks great and once setup provides a very stylish method to access the internet on the move.
Nokia 7110
This was the first phone to be launched with WAP capability but as with many things, being the first doesn't mean it is the best. Early models were plagued with software problems that caused the phone to freeze and the battery would have to be removed and replaced before the phone would function. It became the joke of early developers that this was Nokia's new on/off button design because it happened so frequently! To be fair to Nokia they have now rectified these problems and they offer a The 7110 was a very innovative phone with a large screen and roller ball navigation made it very user friendly. We have heard rumours that this phone is going to be discontinued. Anyone from Nokia like to comment?free firmware upgrade to all existing owners which eliminates these problems.
Nokia 6210
Nokia have gone back to their roots with the 6210. This is slim, sleek, wap machine. There is nothing revolutionary about the outer design but Nokia have done some serious work on the performance of the WAP Browser. The connect and response times are the best we have seen from any WAP phone. We loved the roller ball on the 7110 and it is a shame Nokia have chosen to replace it with more conventional up and down arrow buttons on this phone. After being burnt by the 7110 it is no wonder Nokia have taken the safe option with the 6210. However, it's a good solid performer that will get the job done.
R380 Ericsson R380
If your tired of carrying a phone and a PDA then this is the device for you. Combined with the built in email, calendar, address book and sync functionality makes this phone a must have. It is slightly larger than the average phone but is still smaller than the Nokia 9110i.
